2006 Family Fun Shoebox Event
 1 November 2006

Where children, and their families, are welcomed in love, nurtured in the Word, and challenged to be Disciples of Christ at First Christian Church.

We believe that every child of God should be able to reach his/her potential physically, spiritually and emotionally. Every child should know love, acceptance and encouragement and that they are a child of God.

The words of Jesus found in Matthew 18:5 say “And whoever welcomes a little child in my name, welcomes me.” Children are welcomed, loved, and considered a vital part of  First Christian Church.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR KIDS

Every Sunday Morning @ 9:45

NURSERY
Loving nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers during all scheduled church activities.

PRESCHOOL &  KINDERGARTEN
Our Sunday School Class for this age group uses Veggie Tale curriculum.  It is an exciting theme based curriculum.  The children spend eight weeks learning about one major Bible story using different workshops:  art, music, food, games, etc.

In easrly 2007, during the months of February and early March the children will be experiencing what LOVE is by traveling through the town of Flibber-O-Loo.  At Flibber-O-Loo kids will connect to a loving relationship with Jesus! Flibber-o-loo and Jibberty-Lot are fun Veggie characters that wear shoes and pots on their heads! But they have a problem. They don’t get along with one another. At this site kids will work through the problems of getting along with others as they learn that being different just means that God made each one of us special!

This class is not your typical sit-down Sunday school class.  It is fun and energetic.

FIRST THROUGH 5th GRADE
Our 1st through 5th graders attend FAITH ODYSSEY.  A Workshop Rotation Model Sunday School. This program teaches major Bible stories and concepts through  kid-friendly workshops: Art, music, drama, audio visual, storytelling, computer lab, etc.

Each Bible story or concept is taught for several weeks. During the rotation, the children rotate to a new workshop each week to experience the story in a different way . In this approach, your child reports to a different station with a very clever theme and really cool activities each week. This helps the children learn Bible concepts through a variety of methods and venues.

Early 2007 Schedule--
Feb - Parables: Jesus calms the Sea and Jesus walks on water
Mar - Good Samaritan
Apr - Easter: Last Supper and Gethsemane
May - Conversion of Paul.

For God's word to become part of our children's lives,
it must not just be heard or read, but also
experienced.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH

Children’s Church offers a child-geared worship experience for children three-years old through second grade. This provides an alternative for children who are not yet ready for the formal worship service.  Following Wiggle Time in the adult worship service, the children are excused to follow their leader to children’s church.  Children ages 3 through Kindergarten go to Hattie’s Honey’s Class.  Older children in 1st & 2nd grade attend Children’s Church.   During children’s church, older children learn about worship and the church year.  Come visit children's church or Hattie’s Honey’s one Sunday with your child. See what all of the excitement is about!

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL

Each summer we offer a fun-filled theme based Sunday School that happens all summer long.  We combine all the age groups together.   This annual event is filled with crafts, snacks, music, activities and lots of fun.

Join us this summer  as we take a wild ride through God's Word at the AVALANCHE RANCH. Your fun summer adventure begins JUNE 2007.  Watch this space for updated information coming your way!

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY  FELLOWSHIP

Children of all ages are invited to join in the fun and fellowship on Wednesday Nights.  Dinner is served beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall followed by a brief time of announcements and prayer.  Children are then dismissed to attend Wonderful Wednesday. Snacks, games, crafts and movies are a regular part of Wonderful Wednesday.  Come join in the fun!

FAMILY FUN
Family Fun is an intergenerational program that provides an opportunity for our families to become better acquainted. Fun and fellowship is experienced through various activities.  Our last
family fun event was Wednesday night February 7th.  We put together valentine candy bags for our shut-ins and some to take to the local shelters.  There was also a presentation by the children on the meaning of love.  Family Fun nights are scheduled several times throughout the year.

Other Kid Opportunities:

Children in grades 3-5 are invited to participate in worship as acolytes.

Summer camp is offered each summer at Camp Bethany Hills.
