What's going on in SERVICE between Brown Academy and us?

The after-school program is for students from Brown Academy. Forty to sixty children, aged 9 to 12, come at the church where adults check them in and help stow backpacks and coats.

People from the congregation ------------------
  • serve snacks,
  • teach guitar,
  • lead drama classes,
  • direct arts and crafts,
  • play math games with the kids,
  • read to them,
  • answer questions,
  • give and get hugs, and
  • escort them to the bathroom.

  •

    Valuable support came from ---------------------
  • Lea Ann and Diane, the Principal and Assistant Principal, came with the children to help keep things running smoothly.
  • Paul had laid the groundwork with the Principal for this exciting program.
  • He and Christine made name tags and worked out group assignments for everyone.
  • Doug set up the rooms and did everything else needed on the spur of the moment.
  • Clark Williams and Rick Auten took pictures, which you can see above and below.
  • Volunteers included ----------------------
  • Moggie,
  • Mary,
  • Barbara,
  • Louise,
  • Betty,
  • Andrew,
  • David,
  • Tanya,
  • Kyle,
  • Rick,
  • Pam,
  • Scot,
  • Betty and David,
  • Fran and Hoke,
  • Travis and Sondra,
  • Lesley, and
  • Ardian.

  • Many, many thanks to this energetic and dedicated group.

After a busy hour, the children are conducted to their buses and rides.

Louise has taken over the Angels Project, through which we give homeless and very poor children Angels who provide them with necessities and treats every two weeks or so. Can you think of a more appropriate Chairman of Angels than Louise?

Thank you Chuck T for continuing to buy, bag, and deliver Friday snacks to the homeless children.

Linda and Barbara are our Teacher Appreciation Committee for the Brown teachers. They have already taken candy with a message from the church. Flowers were delivered on Valentines Day. All of us who teach or have taught know how important these gestures are. Cheers for Linda and Barbara.

Gail is enthusiastically stocking the Brown Bucks Store, where students trade positive reinforcement “bucks” for gifts, toys, etc. Kudos to Gail for collecting money, buying the inventory, and stocking the store.

Thank you to the congregation who have brought school supplies and underwear and socks to church. Once again we have taken a large boxful of paper, pencils, etc. What a congregation!

If you want to join in the fun and rewards of any of these activities, come volunteer!
