Calvin C. “Cal” Ermer, 85, retired professional baseball player, manager and
scout, died on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, in a local hospital.
A native of Baltimore, Md., he had been a resident of the Chattanooga area for
the past 57 years.
He was a member of First Christian Church and was a veteran of WWII, serving in
the U.S. Marine Corps.
On Aug. 30, 2008, the Chattanooga Lookouts (where he won a pennant in 1952)
dedicated their press box in his honor. He managed the Minnesota Twins in 1967
and 1968.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Williams Ermer; and a son, Michael
Timothy Ermer.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Ermer, Peachtree
City, Ga.; five grandchildren, Blair Ermer, Davis Ermer, Marc Ermer, Blake Ermer
and Samantha Ermer; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Ermer and Lacey Ermer.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at First Christian Church
with the Rev. Paul Rebelo and the Rev. Phil Summerlin officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state one hour at the church before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian
Church.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the East Chapel of
Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 404 S. Moore Road.
